Woke up today to a broken driver's seat on the car. The back of the seat is completely loose and won't stand upright unless something holds it in place and, while the car isn't undrivable (I've driven it in much worse state) and fixing it will be cheap and easy, it's how it was broken in the first place that really brings my piss to a boil.

Context: The garage where I'm renting a spot is less of a garage and more of a pile up. You leave the car at the incompetent hands of the staff and they find a place in the pile for it. Anyways, since I have a very well defined schedule, they like to leave my car opposite to the entrance, with the driver's side door blocked off, and enter and exit the car by hopping over the front seats. The first time I saw them do it, I told "don't hop over the seats, you're gonna break their backs". The second time I saw them do it, I said "don't hop over the seats, they're old, you're gonna break their backs". The third time I saw them do it, I repeated "don't do that, you're gonna break my godamn seats!"

Now the seats are broken. Jeez laweez, I wonder what happened last night!

Gonna be able to get them to pay for it?

Maybe, the repair is unlikely to cost more than a few bucks for the parts and I'll do it myself either ways. What really annoys me is that I would have had more success telling birds to stop crapping on my car than telling those people to stop breaking it.

I think there are way more fun ways to break a seat than that. Can you canibalize parts from the passenger seat for safety's sake?

Not really, as the whole structure is mounted opposed to the driver's. I took it slow on the way to college this morning and will take it slow on the way home, it's not that bad, just really, really uncomfortable.

You don't have to make up stories for us, BlazinAce. We're all guys here. We won't judge you for having an extremely active lovelife, and doing the 'Suck Squeeze Bang and Blow' with 100+ partners a week.

Personally, if I was living like that, I'd...consider talking to someone. Like, a friend that you pay to listen to and sort through your problems. But that's just me. You do you, man. At least promise us you'll get tested regularly?

Figured as much.

Apologies for thread jacking but I'm new around here. I'm hoping to get started working on my baby soon. 1970 triumph gt6+. Was wondering if there were any triumph people around here?

Send them the bill for parts/labor (give yourself a crazy high labor rate). They won't pay it but it might send a message.

What's a fairly high labor rate in the US? In Brazil, they never go too high because labor is more of a suggestion than an actual practice here, so I figure if I'm gonna do it by the book (I do own workshop manuals for my Tipo), I might as well as charge it by the book.

Fairly high? In a local mechanic shop I'd say $60-80 an hour. At a dealership I'd say $100-135 an hour.

That's from my own experiences though, I've found a hell of a mechanic around the corner from my house who only charges $40 an hour, but that might be a deal for me.

Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind and see what I'll do with those assholes. I ended up having to send the car to a shop. It's 3:30 pm around here, I started trying to fix the seat framing at around 10 pm, stopped for lunch and then gave up.

The mechanism is just too broken to be repaired. The owner of the shop said he'll try welding it together, but if that doesn't work, we'll have to give up the reclining altogether and weld the seat at a comfortable position.

That sucks. How much would a new mechanism be?

No idea if I can even find one, or swap only the mechanism to begin with. Apparently, removing the uphosltery and swapping it around would be one hell of a job... But I got an interesting call this afternoon from the shop which I'll be posting on Oppo in a second : )
